Pikmin Review

Mr. Miyamoto has done it again and created an excellent game. In Pikmin, Captain Olimar has crash landed on a strange planet and has 30 days to repair his ship. With the help of the Pikmin the job can be made possible.

Although the characters may not look realistic, the plant like textures and environments are perfect. The plants that grow semi-realistically will look just like real plants when fully grown with the exception of the changing color center. That is an important part of the game.

The sound really fits the game as you can hear each Pikmin as they do multiple different things. As you fight off enemies you’ll hear the Pikmin each make there noises as they take on baddies or you’ll hear them make one final noise as they are killed in action.

This game takes a lot of strategy to get through it. If you don’t work fast enough or don’t think good enough you’ll never collect the 30 lost space ship parts. With all that the control scheme is a nice one. The “A” button will throw Pikmin and pick them from the ground. The “B” button will whistle for the Pikmin to come to you. “Y” is a map and “X” will dismiss the Pikmin into their groups of colors. The C Stick is one of your main controls. Pressing the C Stick commands your Pikmin in the direction you press it. All in all this is a great use of the GCN controller.

This game is not the longest of games but you can always go back and try and do better then you originally did. With only 30 days of this game each consisting of 15 minutes you will be rather rushed through it.

Though the game is rather short this game is excellent. I’m really excited about a Pikmin 2 which is being planned. Mr. Miyamoto is a pure genius.
