Crazy Taxi Review
The extreme taxi game created by SEGA and brought from Dreamcast to GameCube, thanks to Acclaim. Crazy Taxi first came out as an arcade game and was then brought to the Dreamcast. Now that Acclaim has the rights to this title they brought it to GameCube.
This game has decent graphics but they are direct from Dreamcast so they aren’t spectacular. SEGA didn’t give Acclaim much freedom in this game and you basically get a pixel for pixel port from the Dreamcast version.
The music in this game is great music, some from The Offspring. The voices of the customers are all new and different from the Dreamcast version. The sound of the Taxi revving up and shifting gears sounds nice, and your characters voice also is good. All in all the sound in this game is decent but nothing to brag about.
Excellent arcade gameplay. This game has a really simple control scheme. “R” is your gas pedal and “L” is the brakes. Hitting “A” switches you into drive and “B” switches to reverse. “X” brings up a reminder of where your going and “Y” is the horn. All simple, certainly is, until you start getting advanced and using the crazy drifts and acceleration. Controlling the taxi can be somewhat difficult if there’s a lot of traffic but if you got a lot of speed, surprisingly tighter turns become easier.
This game has literally no lasting value. There is 2 levels (Original and Arcade) and the Crazy Box which consists of 9 mini-games plus a few that you can earn. The Original and Arcade modes are your main things they are both the same only in different cities. There are quite a few mini-games that are fun and you can compete for the best time or score. My favorite is the one that requires you to jump from platform to platform without falling off and you have a time limit.
If you already own the Dreamcast version of this game don’t bother getting this one. Only buy the GameCube version if you absolutely love the game or have never played it before.
