Super Smash Bros. Melee Preview
What can I say about this game now? It looks AMAZING. Remember playing Super Smash Brothers on your Nintendo 64? If you didn’t, then you should go find that game and play it, it’s amazing. I have no doubt that the sequel on GameCube will be awesome. I downloaded a 9 meg movie of the game, the graphics are very impressive. Everything is 3-D unlike the N64 version which was 2 ˝ D. I say 2 ˝-D because the only 3-D thing is the characters, while the background is a 2D sprite.
Anyway, the backgrounds look stunning and so do the characters. I didn’t get to see the movie play all that very well, because my computer doesn’t have enough RAM to keep the moving rolling at a constant rate, but from what I’ve seen in the game, it’s amazing.
The returning characters are as follows: Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Ness, Captain Falcon, Fox, Pikachu, Link. New characters include Bowser, Princess Peach, Shiek, and Ice Climbers.
Yes, I did mention Bowser, he is sure to be a very tough character, although I’m sure he’ll be slow. Sheik, the guy in the mask from Zelda: Ocarina of time comes in as a Ninja fighter. Ice Climber comes from a game on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment system). Note that Luigi isn’t mentioned in the returning list, he’s probably just a hidden character or whoever made the movie figured there was no need for him to be there, because Luigi needs to be there. Jigglypuff isn’t there either, and I doubt he’ll be back. I’m betting that there will be lots of extra hidden fighters in this game.
As I was watching the movie, I noticed that there were scenes that showed each fighter alone doing something rather than fighting another character. Perhaps each character has bonus levels? Now returning in this game is the 4 player mode, and if we’re lucky, there could be up to 8 simulates too.
I heard that a Madden Football game for the GameCube supported up to 8 players, so if that’s true, then maybe Super Smash Bros. Melee will too. As for online support, it’s unknown right now as what will happen with that, but hopefully, we’ll see it happening.
Final Score: 8
