Super Monkey Ball Preview

At E3, a playable version of Super Monkey Ball was available, and it is shaping up to become a good arcade port with a cutesy touch to it.

To those of you who are familiar with the arcade version, you know that you must use a plastic banana as your weapon as you work through ever changing level designs. Your mission is to simply collect as many bananas possible through a variety of puzzles. It is all timed from the moment you leave the start gate, but you don’t have to clear out EVERYTHING from the level.

Everything has variety to it, so you won’t always be playing the same level or always playing the same puzzle. Each world has it’s own twists and quirks, which are sure to surprise us all. The graphics are completely what you would expect from the GameCube; fresh, smooth, and running at the ever constant 60 fps.

This game is shaping up great, and hungry Nintendo puzzle fans will have something to whet their appetite when this title comes bouncing around in 2001.

Final Score: 9
