SSX Tricky Preview
It’s good to see that some games are being developed in Canada for once…it’s a refreshing change not seeing something always from the States or always from Japan. SSX Tricky wants to deliver this same kind of freshness in their sequel to the immensely popular SSX snowboarding game.
SSX Tricky is widely different this time around in terms of moves. You will be able to perform these moves called “Uber Tricks,” where you can release the board from your feet and perform any number of spin, grab, and flip combinations before landing on terra firma. This will certainly revolutionize gameplay as there are a whole ton of new points to rack up.
The control scheme is different than the PS2 version, since the PS2 game optimizes the three shoulder buttons. B is your jump button, and A is your turbo button. This setup will be reversed by game time though. The Turbo Button is used for tweaking out tricks while your in the air. The D-Pad can pre-wind your tricks to give them maximum effectiveness while your in the air. The L, R, and Z buttons are you trick buttons.
The game features all new course modifications and settings, such as British Columbia and Alaska. The courses are 50% different and offer a lot more variety.
Basically, the game can be summed up like this…there’s just more of everything, and things that were already implemented have changed. The music is reported to have great tunes, and the graphics are running at a rock-solid 60 FPS.
Overall, my outlook on SSX Tricky is a rather good one. SSX continues to push the limits of extreme snowboarding. It’s already a blessing that SSX Tricky is on the GameCube, and we’ll continue to see this game develop to its full potential.
