Creatures Preview

The only reason I didn’t do a preview for this earlier was because that I didn’t feel that it was a real title for Gamecube. There was no mention of it at Spaceworld 2000, and the only previews of it that I’ve seen have been on the Internet. However, now that more information has become available, I’m convinced that it’s a working progress for the Gamecube.

“Stunt” Driver. The name says it all. Any stunt game means big jumps, outrageous crashes, loop 2 loops, and such. Climax promises that there will also be some other surprises popping up as you play.

But what truly sets it apart from the zillion other racing games that are on the market is the track editor. Being able to use a very in-depth track editor is superb, and you can also customize existing tracks in the game. Say, for example, you just can’t get over this jump or always get beaten on that turn. While many other systems just let out your fustrations on the controller and walk away, SD lets you open up the Track Editor mode, and you can customize that turn exactly as you like it.

The game engine is looking great, and what does this mean? Smoke curling from your overheated radiator, heat haze on the blacktop, dust effects while the cars are revving up, and changing weather conditions while you play. The engine is also capable of outlandish physics that are sure to crop up on you as you play.

Climax is also rigging it up for online multiplaying, which means downloading custom tracks, putting yours up for download, comparing stats and new texture sets. Even an online “Hall of Fame” could be implemented, meaning you can compare your stats to gamers around the world.

Climax has scored a touchdown with SD, and is progressing well in all forms. We’ll keep you posted on their online plans, as well as any other updates.
