Batman: Dark Tomorrow Preview

Kemco has been working on this game for a long time, and it is evident they want to create something more than a rehashed version of the famous man in black tights. It is also up to them to rekindle our lost respect for Bruce when videogames is concerned

The storyline is customized by yours truly DC Comics, the creators of Batman. It’s great that they have decided to do it, which means we will see a great storyline complemented by a great plot. So far, the story begins with the disappearance of Police Commissioner Gordon. Due to this, all hell breaks loose in the streets, such as rioting and theft. It turns out that Poison Ivy, Scarface, and the like are up to it again, with many more waiting in the wings.

Much like Agent Under Fire, Batman DT also features some pretty nifty gadgets. Completing Batman’s arsenal is the “Universal Tool”, which, as the name implies, could be used to fix everything from your car to fridge to bad test. The Batring is, well, you know… Another gadget worthy of mention is the Medical Kit, which heals the abuse you will no doubt suffer.

The gameplay is classic batman, complemented with closed-in fighting and challenging puzzles to solve. I’m hoping that Batman can also take to the sky and to the sea in his customized air and water craft, and maybe even have battles underwater and battles in the sky. This would add a whole new dimension to the gameplay and make for an interesting game all around. Also, Batman has some niftier street moves, so it’s not a repetitive punch-kick festival and a button-mashing contest like our miserable Batman: Vengeance.

I haven’t gone into too much of the graphical detail, because there isn’t much to report. I am satisfied, however, to report that the screenshots show a detailed, gloomy environment that much suits Batman; unlike another Batman game on the Gamecube which features several shades of black. Batman himself has also sprouted new facial features, and has some definition and shadow in his face.

I’m not a huge fan of comic spinoffs, and DT could either become a great hit or a big blowout, as so many other spinoffs already have become, as well as comic-book-turned-movie-turned-games.

Final Score: 9.5
