Sydney's Pokemon Event

The Pokémon Event was to take place over six hours, players were to compete to the best of their skills and abilities in order to raise their Pokémon to the highest level and win the ultimate prize of a trip to Singapore and a year’s supply of Nintendo games. The Pokémon Trainers were divided into two separate teams – Team Magma and Team Aqua – where they were to pitt their skills against one another in the hope of becoming the greatest Pokémon Trainer of the day. It was going to be a long and hard day, the competitors arrived, the excitement grew and the event began.

Jade and Ryan from Cheez TV were hosting the event and as the seventy players competed the crowd grew and were presented with some great entertainment and some even greater prizes. Small crowd pleasing competitions were held in which everyone seemed to be involved. There was a Pokémon Rap contest, a Mario Kart: Super Circuit challenge played on the big screen using the yet to be released Game Boy Player and many other giveaways. There were Pokémon everywhere and the excitement of the crowd built as more and more prizes were given away.

The competition was drawing too a close and the last round began. At the conclusion of the final round there would be only two trainers remaining to battle it out in a super Pokémon Deathmatch to the finish.

The final trainers were –

  • Matthew Bungard
  • Rajesh Grounder
  • Robert Selveraj
  • Vlad Veljacic
  • Neil Naujok
  • Jared Watts
  • Peter Watts
  • Chris Selveraj
  • James Shanahan
  • Dylan Smith

The final competitors battled it out during the final round and the end of the competition really came down to the wire. There weren’t many Pokémon levels seperating the cream of the crop. The final scores were tallied and two remaining competitors were chosen. The two greatest trainers for the day were –

Dylan Smith

and

Neil Naujok

The sun had dissapeared and the Final Battle began. Both trainers were on the highest level for their respective team. The battle was intense and the crowd were on the edge of their seats. Neil had all but his last two Pokémon knocked out, his next choice was a Swellow, which made short work of Dylans Grovyle. Dylan still had four Pokévmon remaining, Neil was using a Roselia. Swellow’s flying type made short work for Dylans Roselia, because Flying is strong against Grass Type Pokemon. Unfortunately Dylans tactic in which he had four Roselia’s at high levels back fired and he was swiftly defeated by Neils Swellow, proclaiming Neil the winner of the day.

The day was over and the people that had been standing in the crowd realised that they had just spent the entire duration of the competition receiving and competing for prizes. The entire day was a huge success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Congratulations to Neil who received two return Economy Class tickets to Singapore flying Singapore Airlines. On the way, he’ll enjoy KrisWorld, the world’s most advanced inflight entertainment system featuring over 30 Nintendo games.

Both Neil and Dyalan won a year’s supply of software from Nintendo Australia and the brand new Game Boy Advance SP.

This was a fantastic event and everyone sure did have a lot of fun! Hopefully Nintendo will do something like this more often!
