Sega Will No Longer Make GameCube Sports Games
With Sega’s recent low sales on their 2K series of sports games, they needed to make a drastic change. Well, to do this, Sega may not make any more of their sports franchises for the Nintendo GameCube. Here is a recent quote from Sega’s own Mr. Kayama:
Sega’s U.S. sport game unit may stop making games for GameCube to become more cost-effective although the decision would not be made until next month.
This is very unfortunate indeed. NFL 2K3, NBA 2K3, and NHL 2K3 (not yet released) are looking to be big disappointments. Hopefully NHL 2K3 will make a strong showing to make Sega believe they should still create sports games, or at least hockey games for that matter. The GameCube is the only console affected by this.
