Midway Signs Music Deal for Defender

Midway, software developer and publisher, have announced today that Metropolis recording act KMFDM and Black Black recording act Trigger have provided Midway with game exclusive songs for their upcoming title Defender*, based on the 1980s arcade classic.

“The musical styles of both KMFDM and Trigger are a perfect match for the new 3-D version of Defender,” said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway. “The groups’ hard, pulsating rhythms lend an even more realistic feel to the intense, combat-action and strategic gameplay experienced while defending and protecting the human race from an alien invasion.”

KMFDM contributed with the track “Defender,” a remake of Richard Straus’s “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” commonly known as the theme song for the 1968 movie, “2001: A Space Odyssey.” There is a “Club Mix” and an “Ominous Mix” in the game. Trigger created an original track, “Vaunt.”

I personally love the fact that in 1968 there was a movie called “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

*Note: The Game Boy Advance version of Defender will not contain the music featured in this article.
