GameBoy Advance SP Details and Pictures!
Yesterday, we reported that CNN had reason to beleive a new GameBoy was on the horizon. Now, we’ve got confirmation and details on the “GameBoy Advance SP”. The Game Boy Advance SP will have a flip-up, lighted colour screen. It also incorporates the use of lighting around the edges of the screen. There will also be a rechargible battery pack, rendering the need to buy more AA batteries useless. The bettery can last up to 10 hours with the edge-lighing on and up to 18 hours without the edge-lighting. Nintendo says the new GBA will take the shape of a cosmetics kit. The GBASP has a 2.4 x 1.6 inch screen built into its lid which unfolds vertically. In the end, it can be folded into a 3-inch square about an inch thick making it nearly half the size of earlier units. GBA SP will cost $99 USD when it reaches stores on March 23.
The Game Boy Advance has sold 11.5 million units in the U.S. but faces certain competition with mobile phones that are making the journey into cell gaming and will go up against Nokia’s handheld gaming device that doubles as a cell-phone, the N-Gage. Nintendo owns 98% market share in the handheld gaming industry worldwide.
