Spaceworld Play-by-Play

Spaceworld kicked off with a brief announcement by Nintendo’s VP. He outlined the specifics of Gameboy Advance, a price point. After, he branched off into Nintendo’s new next-generation console, the GameCube. He went on to say how that “Dolphin” was simply the code name, and how it would not be used as the name for their final product.

From then on, it was pure party. The VP cleared the stage, and then in whips of smoke and a flash of fire, 5 Japanese women danced onto stage, each holding a different color of the GameCube, while the screen behind them displayed the name of it.

The presentation was then handed over to Takeda Genyo, one of the lead hardware designers for Nintendo, who was a key member in the development of the N64. He touched base on the GCube, reading out the system and specs, as well as a price point. Shiguri Miyamoto was then introduced, and he appeared on stage with one of the prototype Nintendo GameCube controllers in hand. Miyamoto spoke briefly about the hardware and then gave a brief demonstration of the controller.

Then Miyamotyo went into a demonstration. He seemingly started multiplying 128 Mario’s and 128 boxes, and ran through several visual effects on the fly, showing off textual animations, transparency and blurring. After the presentation, the viewers were allowed to test the Gameboy Advance.

In the end, everyone was blown away by GameCube; and the showing couldn’t have been more dramatic of Nintendo’s next-generation system.
