Launch Day!

Yes, your webmaster has purchased the Nintendo Gamecube, and I’m proud to say that the Gamecube is worth every bit of the money you spend on it!

I didn’t pre-order my Gamecube for reasons unknown, even to me; actually, I just spent most of my money that I made over the summer. I decided to check Wal-Mart first, since it was the closest to my house. Low and behold, this is the only stop I would have to make.

Some 80 year old worker directed me to the electronics section, where there were about 15 consoles left, as well as a slew of controllers, memory cards, and RF adapters/switches. I picked up two extra controllers, a memory card, the system, and the RF adapters. They didn’t have orange controllers, so I had to settle for two purple and one black. I also learned that people actually lined up in the morning to get a Gamecube at 9:00 AM, but I got there at 9:45! You might also be pleased to know that there were a surplus number of XBox’s available, but they were at the very back!

Anyways, I get home, and after some screaming, fighting, raving, breakfast, and tantrums, I managed to get it working. The RF adapter that came with the Gamecube didn’t work, so I used my old N64 one instead. Also, it pays to have a good TV. Mine has alot of static in it when I play it loud, since my TV doesn’t support S-Video inputs.

There wasn’t much game selection available (Luigi’s Mansion and Waverace), but I decided to pick up Waverace, since it was the only two+ player game. I would have preferred Rogue Squadron though, but my bratty brother wouldn’t have it (read my review on Waverace for more info).

So that was my Cube purchase. Earlier, I had reservations about buying one since I heard about the troubles that XBox is going through, and PS2 looked okay, but trust me, the Gamecube is worth every bit of your hard earned dollar. And even though the launch games may not be that great, the reason you bought a Gamecube was for Rogue Squadron, Zelda, and Mario, which are sure to define next generation games for years to come!
