Spaceworld Play-by-Play

Well, at Spaceworld 2000, the new system for Nintendo was finally announced! Yes, indeed, my friends, the secret is now finally unveiled!

This system is completely what I wouldn’t expect from Nintendo. The controller sports a pretty nifty design that seems like a cross between PlayStation’s controller and DreamCasts design. The D-Pad and analog stick are located on the right, while what has to be the yellow analog stick and 4 buttons are on the left, with the L and R buttons on the top. I like the inital design, and since I’m pretty much used to PlayStation and DreamCast controllers, switching over to the two-prong design of the Cube controller should be fine. You might have to stretch your thumb over to reach the Start button and the D-Pad. I think the camera stick is a great idea, since programmers won’t have to worry about camera functionality that has plagued some games for years.

And then we have the design of the Cube console (Please note that there are 5 featured colors to pick from!) NCube sports a carrying handle, and judging from box, Nintendo has crammed a super system into a space-saving, futuristic looking system. The DVD’s are about half the size of a regular disk, and has a 1.4 GB capacity (almost 10 times more memory than N64!) The usual four controller ports are at the front, and what appears to be speakers at each side of the system (no doubt for Dolby Surround Sound).

In all, I once again voice my thanks to Nintendo for taking a step ahead of the gaming industry by introducing a different piece of innovative hardware and software for the next-generation of gaming. The N64 took us into the next-generation, and Nintendo is poised to do the same with GameCube.
