The System Wars
Okay, people, now that we all have a good grasp on each systems abilities and…disabilites, which one are you going to buy? Is it the all-in-one PS2, the beefed up X Box or the small yet cheap Gamecube?
Asking myself this, I decided to create a poll on it. I know many people complained of the bias, but if this wasn’t a Gamecube site, then the results would certainly be different. When I loaded up the poll, I wanted to know what you, the gamers, were looking forward to at E3. I mean, although this site may attract Gamecube supporters, I’m certainly looking forward to the X Box and PS2. Take the PS2, for example. Although many developers complained about it, they’re just getting a grasp of what the system can do. This means we’re going to see the real meat of the next generation, with the likes of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec on the horizon. I definitely want to see these games at E-3.
Which brings me to the X Box. We’re looking at the system that boasts the best specs that anyone has to offer. That’s good, but I’m just wondering what developers are going to do with all that power at their fingertips. Developers like Activision and Square are both looking to bring their sequels to the X Box (Tony Hawk 3 and Final Fantasy 10), and I’ll definitely want to play those games. At E-3, we’ll get a full developer list, and hopefully some game demos showing off the awesome power of the X Box. Now who in the right mind wouldn’t want to see that?
And to top off the last item on our list, the good ‘ol Gamecube. I’m looking forward to this system the most, because I’m a Nintendo freak, but also because I want to see what Nintendo can do with a powerful system. I’ll be looking forward to them unloading a ton of info on the Gamecube and the GBA at E3.
But the main problem that is facing many gamers is the games. Although we know the system winners in terms of specs, what we don’t know is what developers are going to do with it. Are you going for Final Fantasy 10 on the X Box, Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PS2, or Zelda/Mario on the Gamecube? In the end, it all depends on what kind of gamer you are, and the system specs will be of little consequence, as long as you can snuggle to your favorite game. Knowing what kind of gamer you are and what you want will ultimately decide your system choice.
