Spaceworld 2001: What will we See?

E3 has come and gone with the flow of the gaming industry, and now us gamers can sit and wait for the next big thing on the horizon, Spaceworld 2001.

E3 was a great showing for Nintendo, and they answered most of the questions that were mounted over the past 16 months from eager Nintendo enthusiasts. We got a good concept of what Nintendo is trying to accomplish with the Gamecube, as well as the games that will make the system a smash success. Some things, however, were left unanswered. Now we can look forward to SW2K to provide the answers.

Some things that were unclear about Nintendo’s showing was the proposed idea of the GBA becoming a controller for the Gamecube. We have already seen the wide range of buttons available for the Cube, as well as the analog control stick and camera view. How will the GBA use this to its advantage while you’re playing a game? Definitely interesting, but we’re sure Nintendo has something up their sleeve. It could be used greatly for playing minigames, showing maps, displaying items; much like Sega’s VMU does, except on a grander scale.

The last thing that I wasn’t to sure about was Nintendo’s online strategy. They obviously realize that to stay ahead in the gaming world, they have to make use of this feature and get gamers connected. We know that the Gamecube will NOT launch with a modem, and that it will have broadband and 56K dial-up access. Nintendo feels that they can profit “offline”, and that no other system (with the exception of Sega) has a working network for them to compete with.

Hopefully, Nintendo will make some announcements concerning these two issues come SW2K, and then my mind can be put at ease. Until then, I’ll be on the edge of my seat in eager anticipation.
