Nintendo's Kiddy Image
Everyone is saying that Nintendo has a kiddy image: and they could be right, since most of Nintendo’s games are for kids. But what some might consider to be Nintendo’s biggest liability, I consider to be Nintendo’s greatest asset.
Who are the trendsetters for our country? Kids. And who plays the most games? Kids, of course. It’s dumb how people can just label Nintendo like this. I mean, I’m 15, and although I don’t play Pokemon, I immensely enjoy games like Zelda and Mario. If Nintendo chooses this way to express their gameplay (which is what really matters), then so be it!
Kids are the ones that are playing the most games these days. I mean, a 25 year old has a life, perhaps college or university, and perhaps even a family and a job. They’re probably not going to be the ones playing games most. Compare kids to adults. All what they worry about are playing and…video games. Video games are apparent in every child’s life, and since they don’t have any pressing matters to deal with, they have as much time as they want to play their games with minimum hassle.
This is also the reason that Nintendo lowered their Gamecube price by 100$. I mean, I’d rather have no DVD player than have Nintendo sacrifice gameplay. Most kids wouldn’t have much of a use for a DVD player anyway. Nintendo isn’t just kids. I know a good amount of people who are my age or older who bought Gamecube for games like Rogue Squadron 2 and Tony Hawk 3. It’s not like we’re stuck only playing Pokemon on our Gamecubes. And with Nintendo securing Resident Evil, and their new attitude to supporting developers, the future looks even better for us “mature” gamers.
In closing, I would just like to say that I prefer gameplay over graphics, and that it’s gameplay that counts. Nintendo may choose however they want their games to look, but as long as they don’t deprive the gameplay, I’ll keep on buying Nintendo hardware for years to come.
