Nintendo Past to Future

Nintendo began the gaming revolution from the start with arcade games in shops, before they noticed that they could make some money out of it by selling home gaming systems. This led to Nintendo producing a high quality gaming system and games that attracted high audiences. Once they launched their console called NES [Nintendo Entertainment System] and a few games one of them, Mario who was a smash hit. Soon three games featuring Mario were created and soon Nintendo made another console called the SNES [Super Nintendo Entertainment System]. The SNES was very popular; though the NES made more sales the SNES was still a great console and featured hundreds of games including Yoshi, Bowser, Peach, Mario, Luigi and the rest of the gaming gang.

After four years of producing great games for the SNES, Nintendo felt that they should move on with the times, so they decided to make a new console. Although they didn’t have much idea of what to call it, one bright guy thought “why do we call it Nintendo 64?” and named it after how much memory the system. Before making the console Nintendo thought to making their games on disks although the disks at that time were expensive. Cartridges were still cheap, so they stayed with them so the Nintendo gamers would not have to pay lots of money for a game like the PlayStation owners did. The Nintendo 64 was a great console at the time. With its graphics and family content it was a fast seller at a reasonable price. Nintendo’s N64 produced more games then people thought to have with 2nd and 3rd party support and thanks to the support had Donkey Kong 64 and other great titles.

Nintendo had also moved to handheld gaming systems just before the N64’s release. Handheds released were the GameBoy, GameBoy Pocket, GameBoy Colour and now GameBoy Advanced which has attracted many gamers with its large screen, brilliant colour and overall GameCube connect ability.

The next console which is now hitting the shelves around the world is the GameCube which is in current competition with the PS2 and X-BOX. Though the PS2 is basically an upgraded PSX, many people purchased one of the PS2 consoles. The X-BOX is attracting some gamers who want a entertainment system and gaming system though its controls are not well designed. The next system coming out from Nintendo should be around 2006 and will it be similar or involve just a lot of internet connection. Really, who knows what the next generation console will evolve into but remember to keep track on your Gamecube!
