Nintendo And Microsoft To Merge?

You may think this is just a rumour, and at the moment it is just that. However the idea of Nintendo and Microsoft partnering isn’t as ridiculous as you may have first thought…

At first it was just rumours that fueled the ideas that a merger between the two companies may occur. The internet contained many stories, (some of them were obviously made up - some were not) the interesting things about these stories were the facts some of them contained and the idea that such events could happen. For example one story claimed senior development sources in the UK had revealed that Microsoft will use ATi as its graphics chipset provider and not it’s current provider nVidia. As we all know ATi serves the Gamecube and will continue to do so as it has recently been decided ATi will help Nintendo with the next console. To put this into perspective for you and reinforce what I have spoken about this statement was made referring to Nintendo’s and Microsoft’s close relationship both at E3 and at home in Redmond.

“Both firms have their eyes on Sony’s massive market share and as such, an unofficial affiliation has formed between the two. At E3 this year, representatives from Nintendo and Microsoft were seen talking jovially together and there is back-slapping all round when any Xbox or GameCube title takes software sales away from the PlayStation.”

“But it’s more than that. Microsoft and Nintendo in the US are practically next-door neighbours in Redmond, Washington. They are socially active together and there is no bitterness between the two.

Furthermore recently a reliable source stated that ATi had in fact received an $18 Million pre-payment for an undisclosed project. However, this could just as easily be a research and development advance from Nintendo for it’s next machine as a binding agreement with Microsoft for Xbox 2.

As ever, all companies involved are re-mortaring their impenetrable walls of silence, meaning that getting concrete confirmation of the payment details is proving impossible.

Still there is a lot of information that points towards or suggests that a merger could take place some time in the near future. As Microsoft conveys it would love to take Sony’s market share and dominate the gaming market. What better way to do it than team up with the best gaming company in the world Nintendo and create a super console? And I wonder what that “undisclosed project” could be?…

This is certainly a interesting topic and one that gamequbed will keep a close watch on. If any further information arises we will let you know.
