My Recent Trip to EB

Well, my friends, Judgment Day is approaching, and pretty soon worlds will collide when the Gamecube and the XBox launch this November.

I recently took a trip to my local Electronics Boutique, and they had some pretty interesting stuff to say. First of all, they were completely biased in XBox’s favor. When I strolled over to the XBox display case, I noticed the system was turned off. What’s this all about? I asked them to turn it on, but as it turns out, Devil May Cry had broke on its way.p>

I also felt the XBox controller. Although I’m running a GQ website, I completely feel that the XBox controller is big and clunky. It didn’t conform to my hands at all, and it was really hard to hold. It felt like it was too big, and it constantly slipped out of my hands. The two experts behind the cashier told me that reception for the DC controller was lukewarm, but people finally came around to it, and that the XBox will be the same way. Most of you know that Japanese gamers have smaller hands than us North Americans, so I don’t think XBox will receive a wide reception there. Launch games are a different story. Honestly, the XBox has alot more launch games (40) versus Gamecube’s (26). This may sway gamers, but I know that Nintendo takes time with their games. It’s a case of either fast games=bad gameplay or slow games = great gameplay. The EB technicians didn’t receive this well either, telling me that the games will still be great. Yes, just like the PS launch games were “great”.

So overall, game stores should be less biased, and they should offer gamers a wider view instead of limiting the public to just one system. I’m experienced enough in games to differentiate, but they could easily sway someone who doesn’t know Mario from Crash. I’m not saying that I won’t visit EB ever again, but I was a bit disgusted at the service that was offered, and I hope that my next visit is more enjoyable.
